The Iowa Corn Growers Association has set its state and federal policy priorities for 2017. Association President Kurt Hora says on the state level, conservation and water quality continue to be a focus and they want the legislature to find some long term funding sources for the Iowa Water Quality Initiative.

Hora says they also need to continue to build out the renewable fuels infrastructure in Iowa and are hoping to obtain funding for the biofuels in infrastructure cost-share program.

On the national level the focus for renewable fuels is protecting the Renewable Fuels Standard. Plus, they believe there is an opportunity to beat back some of the burdensome and costly regulations under a new Administration.

Hora says with discussions starting on the next farm bill they’ll be talking to members of Congress about protecting crop insurance. Plus, they’ll lobby for trade expansion through bi-lateral and multi-lateral trade agreements and the extension of budget dollars for the MAP and FMD export programs.
