Iowa state lawmakers concluded their 2018 session over the weekend and it was a successful one for the Iowa Corn Growers Association members. President Mark Recker says his members were pleased the legislature passed state level coupling of the federation Section 179 tax expensing provision, which will assist them with deductions on equipment purchases.

He says another legislative win was the passage of a water quality bill with $300 million of funding over 12 years. Recker says that will provide long term benefits to growers.

Recker says lawmakers also reauthorized $3 million of funding for the Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Fund Program. This provides cost share grants that help retailers install infrastructure to offer higher blends of ethanol and biodiesel.

Recker says the popularity of the biofuels infrastructure program has grown since it began. In fact, there have been more applications for assistance than there is funding available.
