Tuesday, Iowa State Senators approved legislation and sent it on the Governor to provide close to $ 300 million for improving the state’s water quality. Iowa Corn Growers Environmental Committee Chairman Denny Friest says the measure will help the states farmers practice good conservation and further advance the nutrient reduction management strategy already underway.

He says SF 512 is a positive measure that addresses water quality by providing funding for twelve years.

Friest says ICGA has been working on this legislation since last session and are pleased lawmakers approved it in both the Iowa House and Senate.

Friest and Corn Grower’s President Mark Recker says they are working with conservation experts, scientists and in collaborative public and private partnerships to adopt new practices and technologies in improving the state’s water.
