Iowa Corn Growers Association members are asking the President to restore trade with China after the trade war with the United States intensified last week. China announced they’re retaliating against U.S. agriculture following $100 billion in new tariffs announced by President Trump. Iowa Corn Growers President Mark Recker says U.S. ag commodities get hit the hardest by any trade retaliation.
He says they don’t oppose actions to make sure China plays by the rules when it comes to trade but it’s critical U.S. ag markets aren’t disrupted by this trade battle.
Recker says retaliatory tariffs imposed on U.S. pork or soybeans, cattle or ethanol also impact corn growers.
Recker says there is a window of opportunity to reach a mutually beneficial trade position with China before the deadline for the tariffs to be enacted.
