Iowa Congressman Randy Feenstra Talks About the Farm Bill

Although past history has shown the writing of the farm bill has been a bi-partisan effort, how will the farm bill look depending on which political party has majority control following the mid-term elections of next week?  Iowa Congressman Randy Feenstra who is a member of the U-S House Agriculture Committee says democrats are primarily focused on the SNAP program, supplemental nutrition assistance.  If the republicans become the majority party, farmers may see some new proposals with the farm bill.  Feenstra says trade is also important to the republicans.  Feenstra says the House Agriculture Committee has several Midwestern republicans and few democrats from the Midwest.  He says it is sometimes difficult to explain to urban legislators the importance of the farm bill components as it relates to farming.  Feenstra says he works with South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson in telling their colleagues about the importance of having safeguards, along with research development, and nutrition programs.  He says food security is a part of national security.
