The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association adopted policy at the Iowa Cattle Industry Leadership Summit and Annual Meeting covering the areas of rural broadband, climate change and meat labeling. Incoming ICA President Bob Noble says a resolution to support Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling passed unanimously the key will be finding a way to make it WTO compliant.

He says they also passed a resolution calling for transparency in labeling of alternative protein products as USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service is currently taking comments on those rules.
ICA also supports the Grassley Fischer compromise bill that would mandate negotiated cash cattle levels on a regional basis and they await a hearing in the Senate Ag Committee on it. He says they will also push NCBA for a policy change at the annual meeting in February.

Noble also responded to the $14 million of state tax incentives announced for Iowa Premium to double capacity at its Tama beef processing plant to 14,000 head daily.

These resolutions will be forwarded to NCBA for consideration at the annual meeting.
