South Korean trade leaders want the U.S. to go step by step with them on any possible changes to KORUS.(the US South Korean Free Trade Agreement). Iowa Cattlemen’s Association President Mike Cline thinks that would be a wise move. Both he and the South Koreans are concerned with comments made by President Trump last week about possibly exiting the deal.

Cabinet members including Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue briefed the President about the implications of withdrawing from KORUS. Cline hopes the President will listen to them before making any snap judgements.

Cline says withdrawing from KORUS would take away one of the top customers of U.S. beef and cause dire economic impacts.

Cline believes it’s important the U.S. renew and strengthen trade relationships in the Pacific Region with both South Korea and China as well as Japan.
