The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association is holding five cattle market listening sessions across the state starting tonight in Ames. Iowa Cattlemen’s Association/s CEO Matt Deppe says transparency and mandatory price reporting are two of the major topics they’re hoping to get input from their members at the meetings.

He says they’ll be looking for any possible solutions they can find to address market challenges.

Deppe says many of their members are concerned with what happened to the cattle markets following the Tyson Meat Processing plant fire and the volatility and low cattle prices that followed.

7 pm meetings are set for Ames tonight, October 17 in Atlantic at the Cass County Community Building, October 23 at the Osage Knights of Columbus Hall and October 28 in Sioux Center at Kooima, Kooima and Varilek office. There will also be a 10 a.m. meeting October 23 in Maquoketa.
