The Iowa State Senate Ways and Means Subcommittee unanimously approved and sent forward a measure that would kill the state’s inheritance tax. The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association is in favor of the bill. Government Relations Director Cora Fox says producers need to be able to pass their operations on down to the next generation without being burdened by that tax

She says her group sees great support from many state lawmakers and expects that to continue with the inheritance tax issue.

Fox says the inheritance tax negatively impacts not just farmers and ranchers but most citizens.

Senate Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dan Dawson, Republican of Council Bluffs says he expects the concept of getting rid of the inheritance tax to be incorporated into a larger tax policy bill that would be taken up later this session.
