Iowa Cattlemen’s Association held its annual meeting last week, and according to Bob Noble, the president of the Iowa Cattlemen, cattle producers discussed several issues and adopted policies. Noble says one resolution that passed dealt with the upcoming farm bill legislation. Noble says Iowa cattle producers would like to see some modifications to the Conservation Reserve Program, which would allow cattle to graze on the CRP acres. Noble says grazing on CRP ground would be a prescribed method. He says it would not be year-round, but grazing would take place during a portion of the year, and not just during a designation of emergency haying and grazing of Conservation Reserve acres. The Iowa Cattlemen’s president says members adopted some policies dealing with marketing, as well as continued discussion on the Grassley-Fischer cattle transparency marketing bill. Noble says Iowa cattle producers also discussed property rights as it relates to eminent domain issues. He says they were not specific to the proposed carbon pipelines that will transport carbon dioxide from ethanol plants to underground storage facilities in North Dakota and Illinois, but the focus was on the pipelines. Noble says the membership was split on the proposed carbon pipelines.
