New Iowa Clean water rules went into effect this week. The new regulations are designed to increase livestock operation inspections and provide stronger enforcement of manure spills. Iowa Cattlemen Association President Ed Greiman says the rules put together by the State Department of Natural Resources and EPA are a good compromise that’s workable for everyone.
Greiman says the good thing is that inspections are done by the State D-N-R and not the federal government. He also says it’s good the new rules don’t mandate manure discharge permits.
EPA signed off on the new rule after it went through public hearings, was approved by the Iowa Environmental Protection Commission and by a legislative rules committee.
