Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer of Iowa led a bi partisan group of Congress people introducing the Clean Fuels Deployment Act legislation this week. The measure authorizes $500 million over five years for the Department of Transportation to provide grants incentivizing fueling infrastructure for ethanol and biodiesel. Iowa Biodiesel Board Executive Director Grant Kimberley says it’s a good bill that will help biodiesel and ethanol plants pay part of their infrastructure costs.

Cassidy Walter of the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association says the bill provides several benefits including getting more higher level blends out to consumers as well as protecting the environment and leading to more jobs.

Kimberley says the legislation if it passes will not only benefit biodiesel and ethanol producers but farmers as well.

The bill specifically focuses on biodiesel blends greater than 20 percent and ethanol blends greater than 10 percent. Nebraska Congressman Don Bacon is one of the bill’s co-sponsors.
