Iowa’s biodiesel production in 2014 came in at 227 million gallons dropping from the record levels of 230 million gallons set in 2013. Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Executive Director Monte Shaw says not having the federal biodiesel tax credit in place hurt production while state policies kept it from being worse than it was.
Shaw says not having the federal credit in place kept Iowa’s biodiesel producers from growing their industry and matching those previous record levels.
Shaw says the uncertainty caused by the feds not passing the tax policy until the end of the year created all kinds of economic havoc.Iowa leads the nation in biodiesel production and Soybean Oil is the leading feedstock for the fuel accounting for 77 percent of production.
