Iowa Biodiesel Production Hits a Record in 2015

Iowa’s biodiesel production set a new record last year. Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Executive Director Monte Shaw says that’s significant given the fact that there was policy uncertainty during 2015 that hampered those efforts.

He says two major factors led the record levels of biodiesel production including efficiencies of Iowa’s plants and state incentives.

Shaw thinks they have a great opportunity to break biodiesel production levels this year.

Iowa has 12 biodiesel facilities with the capacity to produce nearly 315 million gallons annually. In addition the state has 43 ethanol refineries capable of producing 4 billion gallons yearly, including nearly 55 million gallons of cellulosic ethanol production capacity.
