Iowa’s 2016 biodiesel production reached a record of 297 million gallons, surpassing last year’s total of 242 million gallons. State Biodiesel Board Executive Director Grant Kimberly says the 55 million gallon increase in biodiesel production is 23 percent higher than 2015. He says several factors led to the growth.
He says biodiesel use in Iowa has been climbing for the past few years.
Kimberly says one of their goals to continue their growth trend is to work with the new Congress to reinstate the biodiesel tax incentive that expires on December 31. They also want to make it a producer’s credit.
Kimberly says Congress will likely be talking about overall tax reform and he expects the biodiesel tax credit to be part of that discussion.
