Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley is continuing to work to find a market solution for cattle producers who’ve been suffering from depressed prices while the packing industry’s been enjoying high prices. Grassley testified last week before the House Agriculture Committee on that issue. He says there is momentum building to address the problem.

He says he’s also been meeting with Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer in hopes they can merge their livestock pricing bills together that would have a better chance of getting approved.

Grassley says one of the components that’s in Senator Fischer’s bill that makes a lot of sense and would help cattle producers is the establishment of a contract library.

Grassley says another sign of progress in addressing the cattle price problem is that AG Secretary Vilsack is moving ahead with getting more antitrust enforcement through the Packers and Stockyards Act.
