The Agribusiness Association of Iowa wants EPA to completely get rid of its proposed Waters of the U.S. Rule that they say clarifies the Clean Water Act. Association CEO Joel Brinkmeyer says it does the opposite and creates more unneeded regulation on not only waters but on agricultural land. He says if the rule is enacted it will cause every ag chemical sprayer to have to have a permit in order to operate.
Brinkmeyer says there is no way to tweak or fix the proposed rule so it just needs to be completely done away with.
He says not only is the proposed rule an overreach it also will actually stop environmental progress by slowing or stopping attempts by farmers to bring environmental benefits with their practices.
Brinkmeyer says his Association which has 350 retail members is being urged to submit comments against the rule. He says they’re encouraging them to go to their web site and send an email to both Congress and EPA.
