Last week in Iowa, State Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig hosted a trade roundtable with USDA Undersecretary for Trade and Foreign Affairs Ted McKinney. He said they heard from 25 representatives of commodity groups and that most were encouraged by the Trump administration’s recent victories in trade including the remake of NAFTA or the USMCA.

He says even with the recent wins on trade, concern remains in the country over the trade war with China.
Naig says farmers at the roundtable are also encouraged by the President’s announcement regarding moving ahead on rulemaking for year-round use of E15.

Naig says farmers needed some good news as it relates to trade given past challenges and their recent discouragement over not being able to get into the fields to harvest. He says they remain optimistic however that drying weather is on the way.
