Iowa Governor Terry Branstad has vetod a one-time spending bill that included $11.2 million for water quality and conservation programs. Secretary of Ag Bill Northey says he’s disappointed and a little surprised by the Governor’s decision.

Northey says the veto will cut about 40-percent from their budget for the Iowa Water Quality Initiative. While they did receive some additional funding, he’s not sure they’ll be able to make up the shortfall.

Northey says this is a lost opportunity to do even more to build on the exciting momentum they’re seeing around the Iowa Water Quality Initiative.
