On November 5-6, the International Conference on Swine Livability invites swine producers to Omaha, NE, for a deeper look at increasing animal survivability and profitability.
Kansas State University Swine Extension Specialist, Dr. Joel DeRouchey, says that swine livability is a critical subject that needs to be addressed.
“One of the things that we in the swine industry have to continue is to improve pig livability…” DeRouchey said. “Currently in the U.S. one-third of our pigs never make it to market due to mortality and that’s if you do the cumulative process between sow, farrowing process, nursery and finishing… we have to do better.”
DeRouchey says the goal of the conference is to provide practical ways for swine producers to improve pig survivability at any stage of production.
