The Governor’s Ag Summit showcased some of the top innovations in South Dakota agriculture. Mark Luecke with Prairie Aqua Tech in Brookings says their company is providing high quality feed ingredients used in aquaculture and other animal feeds. They use sustainable plant based commodities like distillers grain and soybean meal.
Luecke says they’re providing a lower cost feed than fish meal which is becoming non sustainable and too costly for aquaculture. The product started as a research project at SDSU and has grown to commercial scale.
Another company featured was C-Lock of Rapid City and Melissa Frye says their company developed the world’s first turnkey online system to monitor trace gases from ruminant animals.
These systems allow livestock producers to provide individualized management in large production environments. Plus, reduce costs and lower the operation’s environmental footprint.
