Infrastructure Needs Investment, Not Lip Service

While President Trump again included infrastructure in his State of Union Address, so far there has been a lack of commitment to new funding by Congress. Meanwhile, the American Association of Railroads says freight shipments are expected to increase 37 percent from 2016 levels through 2040. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says this points out the need for more money for infrastructure to keep America a global trade leader.

Steenhoek says infrastructure investments need to be provided to all modes of transportation including, rails, barges and trucks.

He says for U.S. agriculture to remain successful in the export market, transportation must be efficient and price competitive.

Steenhoek hopes the President and Congress can come together to provide significant progress on infrastructure projects going forward.
