Monday afternoon the EPA released the volume obligations for ethanol under the Renewable Fuel Standard. The finalized EPA target levels are 13.61 billion gallons for 2014, 14.05 billion gallons for 2015 and 14.5 billion gallons for 2016. They fall short of the statutory levels under the RFS at 14.4 billion gallons for 2014 and 15 billion for 2015 and 2016. American Coalition for Ethanol Executive Vice President Brian Jennings says the EPA is constraining ethanol use with their ruling.

Jennings says his group is considering its options in responding to the EPA decision, including possible court action.

He says the advanced biofuels or cellulosic ethanol industry is the most at risk from this RFS volume level decision.

Jennings says the EPA’s decision runs counter to the President’s goal of achieving significant climate change, which he is pushing for at the Paris talks.
