The Industrial Hemp legislation received unanimous approval this week in a Senate Committee after passing the South Dakota House earlier. South Dakota Farmers Union backs the measure. The group’s lobbyist Mitch Richter says lawmakers and the Governor are still apart on the funding needed for the program to be approved..
He says legislators are still working on the hemp funding and hope to have an answer soon that meets all concerns.
Richter says even if the legislators and Governor remain apart on the funding, he believes there’s enough votes to override any possible veto.
Richter says three of the four guardrails Governor Kristi Noem wanted for the hemp legislation have been met with funding the last one to reach.
