A fight is brewing in North Dakota between livestock groups over a proposal that would ask the state legislature to double the state beef check off. North Dakota Stockmen’s Association is expected to call for legislators to raise the check off from a dollar a head to two dollars a head next year. Independent Beef Producers of North Dakota oppose that plan. President Kenny Graner says whether or not to raise the check off should be decided by producers casting ballots.
Graner says the problem with the Stockmen’s plan is that the check off money collected would be used against them and for issues they oppose.
Graner says IBAND supports the check off system but not the plan being pushed by the Stockmen’s Association.
