Congressional leaders are working on an omnibus spending bill. Nebraska Farm Bureau leaders are closely monitoring the process. Farm Bureau’s National Affairs Coordinator Jordan Dux says there are several tax components and other important issues effecting agriculture contained in the legislation.
He says there are some regulatory measures that impact agriculture that may be included in the omnibus bill.
Dux says in the past his group supported Country of Origin Labeling, however following the over a billion dollars in retaliation damages authorized by the WTO has changed their stance to calling for full repeal. He expects that to be attached to the omnibus legislation.
Dux says Nebraska beef producers and grain farmers could see retaliatory tariffs placed on over $200 million worth of products if COOL is not repealed.
