Immigration Reform Dead for 2014

Immigration Reform Dead for 2014

The debate in Congress over immigration reform appears to be dead for the year as far as any legislative fixes in the House. Last year the Senate passed reform legislation. President Obama is attempting some administrative steps to try to advance immigration reform. And National Milk Producers Federation’s Chris Galen whose group backs reform because of the need for ag workers says anything the President does won’t solve their problem.

Galen says they were hoping for an opportunity to pass an immigration bill during the lame duck session when lawmakers come back to settle budget issues. He says however that would be a long shot.

One of the President’s priorities has been changing immigration law and providing a path to citizenship for about 11 million immigrants in the country illegally.
