An Illinois producer has been named the 2018 America’s Pig Farmer of the Year.
The award is presented by the National Pork Board and President and South Dakota pork producer Steve Rommereim made the announcement.

Rommereim says Bane was chosen by a panel of Judges through a rigorous process along with online voting.

He says Bane closely follows the Pork Board’s We Care Ethical principles in caring for and raising the 74,000 pigs on his Illinois operation. Rommereim says he’ll be sharing that message with consumers helping them to better understand agriculture and pork production.

Rommereim says Bane also had a third party audit conducted of his on farm practices and took part in a series of written and oral interviews before being selected after being named one of the four finalists.
