Iowa is in the top five states of farmers who have applied for trade mitigation aid from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Iowa Farmers Union President Aaron Lehman says he expects even more farmers across the country to be seeking help as the trade war with China persists.
He says there needs to be a solid and clear plan to solve the current trade war that’s causing economic harm to America’s farmers and ranchers.
Lehman, while hoping recent trade agreements like the USMCA will spur China to come to the table to help solve the trade war, says the uncertainty is damaging U.S. agriculture.
Besides Iowa, the other four states leading in farmers seeking trade mitigation aid include Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Kansas.
