President Elect Joe Biden has said he wants to incentivize farmers to sequester carbon in their soil and implement several environmental practices. Iowa Farmers Union President Aaron Lehman is encouraged by that focus and wants to see that followed through because not only would producers be compensated for protecting the environment, they’d also get some financing to help them deal with economic pressures they’re under.

He says while carbon sequestration was attempted before, taking a full force approach to getting it going and giving farmers financial help is the best way to go about it

Lehman says there are several benefits to carbon sequestration including benefitting soil health.

Lehman says his group will weigh in with the President Elect and new leaders in Congress to advance these agricultural issues.
