The Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska came out of their annual meeting this week after Friday’s get together focused on several issues. President Jim Dinklage says their major push at the state level during the 2022 session of the Unicameral will be the re introduction of Senator Steve Erdman’s Consumption Tax Bill that would replace all other state taxes including the property tax.
He says ICON is backing Senator John Thune’s Bill that would reinstate Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling and also the Grassley Tester bill calling for packers to purchase fifty percent of their cattle from the spot market in a 14 day time period. Dinklage says he’s extremely disappointed Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer has put in legislation on the cattle price issue that backs what packers want.
Dinklage says they’ll also be opposing any education bill that calls for teaching about race and sexuality to children as young as kindergarten age.
Dinklage says their issue discussion was good at their annual meeting but their turnout was not very good. He says they talked issues but held no elections
