The Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska passed a pair of resolutions at their recent annual convention backing the increase in the state brand fee from 75-cents a head to a $1 per head. ICON President Dave Wright says while they back the increase they’re opposed to the exemption registered feedlots are being given on the brand fee.
He says that’s a major savings feedlots receive with this change in the brand fee.
Wright is encouraging ICON members and other producers to contact their state Senator, the Brand Committee and the State Attorney General’s office to let them know about their opposition to the exemption.
Wright says his group believes in total equality in the brand inspection program and the only fair increase is a set fee across the board for all livestock operations.
