The Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska are unhappy with an inspection fee proposal being advocated by the State Brand Board. It would introduce a word change in brand policy allowing inspectors to charge a lesser fee for feedlots by calling the service an audit. ICON President Dave Wright says it unfairly penalizes cow calf operators. He says the Brand Committee will have to take their proposal to the Unicameral and try to fight the fee inequity legislatively.

He says the fee should be equal for all cattle producers paying for the service and anything else is just not good business or legislation.

Wright says many of the problems with the Brand Committee are still mired in politics.

Wright is also concerned that the Nebraska State Brand Committee accepted the resignation of their former director and then re-hired him for a new position within the panel.
