ICON Supporting Consumption Tax Legislation

Nebraska State Senator Steve Erdman has introduced a resolution in the Unicameral calling for a Consumption Tax. That bill has passed out of committee and it calls for eliminating of property, income and corporate taxes and replacing them with the consumption tax. The Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska back the bill. President Jim Dinklage says while they’re in favor of the legislation also decided to individually fund the consumption tax ballot drive.

He says the fairest way to tax citizens is through the consumption tax and that’s why he and his group support it.

Dinklage says he sees quite a bit of legislative support for the bill but it will likely boil down to an urban versus rural issue.

Dinklage says Nebraska’s current tax system is very unbalanced with property taxes picking up the majority of taxpayer support while income and corporate taxes are far less.
