Nebraska Agriculture groups are hailing Governor Pete Ricketts for his stance in working to keep meat processing plants open in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska President Jim Dinklage says it’s critical to keep those plants up and running and the workers safe. He says everyone is working hard to make that happen.

He says he and his group’s members continue to monitor what’s happening with the packing plants.

Dinklage says besides they’re members being concerned about keeping packing plants going, there’s a lot of concern in the cattle industry for the need of getting a workable cattle market and one that’s transparent.

While ICON wants packers to purchase 50 percent of the cattle from the cash completed within 14 days, the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association earlier asked for packers to purchase at least 30 percent of the cattle from the cash market within 14 days.
