The Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska are rejecting the recent Memorandum of Understanding proposed by several ag groups that want an increase in the beef check off to two dollars a head from the present one dollar. ICON President Dave Wright says the return on investment in the beef check off in 2009 was $ 5.50. This year the return came out at $ 11.50. He says that’s one of the reasons the check off shouldn’t be hiked.
Wright says his group also wants the way the beef check off is run changed.
Wright says other concerns ICON has include where the extra assessment dollars will be used and who will have control over them.
