The Iowa Fuel Choice Coalition is opposing legislation supported by the Governor to mandate E 15 fuel use at every gas station in the state by 2026. Iowa Corn Grower’s Association President Carl Jardon says the bill would require E-10 use up until 2026 when it goes up to E-15. He says the Fuel Choice Coalition is misguided in opposing this bill.
The Fuel Choice Coalition says the ethanol mandate measure will result in higher gas prices and will force gas stations to make expensive upgrades to their tanks. Jardon says the upgrade issue has been solved with an addition to the legislation which exempts the cost of upgrading for gas stations.
He says if Iowa fails to follow through on the ethanol mandate it’ll end up mandating conventional gasoline benefitting large oil companies.
Jardon says his group is backing the ethanol bill because it will help improve the ag economy that Iowa depends on.
