ICCI Wants EPA To Pressure Iowa DNR To Complete Work Plan

Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement members rallie in Des Moines Tuesday to call attention to the State Department of Natural Resources failure to make much progress on the Clean Water Act work plan. ICCI Organizer Jess Mazour says five years ago, EPA directed the State DNR to complete a work plan showing they were properly enforcing the Clean Water Act. Her group’s members don’t believe that enforcement is happening.

She says the DNR has until the end of August to complete their EPA directed work plan. Mazour says they want the federal agency to mandate compliance.

Mazour ICCI still has on the table is possible legal action if the DNR doesn’t reach compliance. She says besides that option, their group will be working for state legislation next January to address pollution issues.

Mazour says besides their rally, ICCI members also testified in front of the State Environmental Protection Commission asking for more rigid enforcement of state environmental laws.
