Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement members are hailing the withdrawal of applications for two large pork operations in Clay and Wayne Counties. ICCI Organizer Jess Mazour says they were able to bring local residents together in each county to oppose the operations, which led to them to halt building plans.
She says their opposition to the Iowa Select Farms projects centered around environmental concerns.
Mazour says with their failure to convince the DNR to strengthen the Master Matrix, they’ve had to turn to organizing local groups to oppose the large agricultural operators.
Mazour says ICCI’s major focus now is to call for a moratorium on large ag operations and CAFOs.
