Iowa Citizens For Community Improvement members are voicing opposition to Energy Transfer’s Planned 1100 mile underground oil pipeline that would ship crude oil from the Bakken fields in North Dakota across 17 counties in Iowa. ICCI member Joe Reutter farms in Boone County in the path of the pipeline. Reutter who is a civil engineer says the pipeline would cause several ag and environmental problems and hurt cover crops he’s planted.
Reutter says another problem is that the oil pipeline will have a detrimental effect on tiling and drainage. He says another major problem is that pipelines will leak.
Energy Transfer based in Dallas, Texas plans to ship the oil from North Dakota across Iowa to Illinois and then down to the Gulf of Mexico. Reutter says then it’ll likely be shipped overseas.
