Iowa State lawmakers have stalled efforts to hold a vote or even have a hearing on a confined animal feedlot moratorium bill. That means the measure is dead for this session. Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement State Policy Director Adam Mason says they were hoping to at least have some discussion regarding the lack of solutions for addressing water quality that they see being degraded by large livestock operations.
He says most Iowans surveyed want something done to curtail CAFOs and do something to improve water quality.
Mason says there are some other pieces of legislation moving to attempt to improve water quality but he doesn’t see any of those having any positive impacts.
Mason says their next step is to bring the CAFO Moratorium and water quality issues to voters and have them weigh in with candidates seeking elected office in the state.
