The Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement has filed a complaint with the State Department of Natural Resources over failed manure management plans. ICCI’S Jess Mazour says their members audited manure management being conducted in five counties and found several violations.
Mazour says they want DNR to provide tougher enforcement under the Clean Water Act and to require farms to file nutrient management plans which are regulated under that law.
Mazour says ICCI members found instances of manure being spread on steep and hilly highly erodible land which has led to runoff causing pollution problems.
