Farm groups aren’t the only ones unhappy with the failure of Iowa lawmakers to approve long term funding to improve the state’s water quality. Iowa Citizen’s for Community Improvement organizer Jess Mazour says much of that failure is due to large corporations controlling legislative leaders.
She says state lawmakers need to put in stricter regulatory standards to protect the environment.
Mazour says without a long-term funding plan in place to improve water quality, the immediate impact will be disastrous.
Mazour says the problem is that Iowa isn’t in a budget crisis, it’s more of a revenue crisis where funding priorities are misplaced. She says there needs to be more money for environmental inspectors.
