Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement want the State Department of Natural Resources to hold an East Central Iowa farmer accountable for a manure spill they say caused a fish kill in the Alloway creek. ICCI farming and environment organizer Jess Mazour says the farming operation near Laurel had not been inspected since 2006, nearly eight years ago and tougher rules are needed to prevent this from happening again.
Mazour says this isn’t the first time this type of event has occurred.
Mazour says since 1995, there have been over 740 manure spills in Iowa and 630 waterways have been polluted showing the need for tougher regulations.
