ICCI And Coalition Pleased TPP Dead For Lame Duck Congress

ICCI And Coalition Pleased TPP Dead For Lame Duck Congress

A Coalition of groups including the Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement is pleased Federal lawmakers have blocked a vote on the Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement. ICCI Senior Organizer Evan Burger says the way TPP was put together benefitted corporations at the expense of others.

He says the major reason his group opposed TPP is that it contained a provision for investor state dispute settlements which gives undue protections to corporations.

Burger says ICCI will remain vigilant to make sure a reconfigured trade agreement similar to TPP doesn’t come up following the lame duck. He says they’re not against trade in general however.

Regional groups opposing the TPP included the Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement, the Communication Workers of America and Land Stewardship Project.
