A White House spokeswoman says the Trump administration has set the wheels in motion for renegotiating the U.S. South Korean Free Trade Agreement. Trade Ambassador Robert Lighthizer has called a special meeting to start the process. That news is disturbing to Iowa Cattlemen’s Association President Mike Cline. He says there needs to be time for the FTA to pay off.

He says countries in the Pacific Rim are important trading partners and it’s critical to build relationships to make those agreements work.

Cline says his organization will monitor renegotiation developments and provide input to the administration and Congress.

Before any renegotiation can occur, the Trump administration needs to follow the procedure set in the 2015 Trade Promotion Authority Act. So, Congress would have to be given 90-days notice before negotiating any trade deal.
