The Iowa Sierra Club is suing the State Department of Environment and Natural Resource for giving the go ahead to an 11,600 cattle herd confined animal feeding operation in the Bloody Run Creek area in Clayton County. Iowa Cattlemen’s Association CEO Matt Deppe says once a CAFO’s been approved by the DNR, that feedlot has been found to be environmentally responsible.
He says the state’s cattle producers have had their own operations thoroughly examined and tested to be found they’re safe as it comes to the environnment and many have exceeded standards that the state has rquiredd.
Deppe says cattle producers drink the water like any other consumer and want to be able to pass their operations down in good shape to their heirs and families.
Deppe says not only does any CAFO that’s allowed to operate environmentally sound but economically sound as well.
