ICA CEO Pleased CAFO Moratorium Billed Killed In Iowa Legislature

The Iowa Legislature stalled efforts by anti ag activists to push forward a moratorium bill on confined animal feeding operations. Iowa Cattlemen’s Association CEO Matt Deppe says they were able to communicate well with lawmakers and help them see the science based arguments of the environmental benefits of CAFOs to the state’s economy.

He says ICA and its member leaders do a great job of weighing in with state lawmakers on any potential measure impacting the livestock industry.

Deppe says ICA members are working throughout the legislative session to not only educate lawmakers but to show them the overall economic benefits of agriculture to the state.

Legislation calling for a CAFO moratorium was introduced in both the Iowa House and Senate but failed to get any movement. Deppe says that’s a great not only for farmers and ranchers but for the entire state.
