Area farmers are experiencing delays in harvesting this year’s crops. In Hutchinson County, South Dakota, growers are two to three weeks behind and need drying weather to be able to finish up. That’s according to Mary Haag, Farm Service Agency Acting Executive Director.

She says many growers trying to complete their harvest keep getting bogged down in the fields by the wet and muddy conditions.

Haag says their neighboring counties are experiencing the same types of delays Hutchinson County producers are seeing.

Haag says those wanting to apply for market facilitation payments for trade aid mitigation are waiting to be able to determine their harvest numbers to apply. She says however they can estimate their production and send it in.

The deadline to apply for the second round of trade aid mitigation payments through the market facilitation program is January 15.
