Fred Hoiberg has been introduced as Nebraska’s new basketball coach at a news conference where 300 people attended and cheerleaders greeted him as he walked to the dais.
The Chicago Bulls fired Hoiberg four months ago.
He said he was drawn to Nebraska because of his family’s ties to the state and university. Hoiberg’s grandfather Jerry Bush coached the Huskers in the 1950s and ’60s.
Hoiberg’s charge is to turn around a program that finished 10th or lower in the Big Ten six times in eight years.
